Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made ceramic shells designed to improve the shape, colour, and overall appearance of your smile.
Porcelain has a natural translucency that can closely mimic tooth enamel, which often makes it a beautiful option for highly visible teeth, such as the upper front teeth.
Unlike composite veneers, which are shaped directly onto the teeth in one visit, porcelain veneers are carefully designed and made in a dental laboratory by a skilled ceramicist. This usually involves several appointments to plan your smile, prepare the teeth, create the veneers, and bond them securely into place.
In most cases, a very thin layer of enamel may need to be removed from the front surface of the tooth, usually around 0.2 mm to 0.5 mm. The amount depends on your teeth, the type of porcelain used, and the final result we are trying to achieve. In some cases, little or no reshaping may be needed, especially where tooth structure is already missing.
Porcelain veneers generally cost more than composite veneers, but they are stronger, more stain-resistant, and more durable. With good care, porcelain veneers commonly last around 12 to 15 years, and in some cases longer.
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are a simple and effective way to improve the appearance of your smile. They are made using tooth-coloured composite resin, which is carefully applied, shaped, and polished directly onto the surface of the teeth.
Because the resin is sculpted onto the teeth in the chair, composite veneers can often be completed in a single visit.*
The shade can be customised to blend with your natural teeth or create a brighter, fresher appearance, depending on your goals. While composite veneers can achieve a beautiful result, they generally do not reflect light in quite the same way as natural enamel or porcelain veneers.
Composite veneers are also typically less durable than porcelain veneers and may be more prone to staining, chipping, or wear over time. With good care, they can last around 5 to 6 years, although this varies depending on your bite, habits, diet, and oral hygiene.
*Suitability and treatment time depend on your individual teeth and treatment needs.
