If your last dental visit involved white knuckles and a racing heart, Dr Katie Wilson would like to change that.

Katie opened White Sands Dental in 2020 after eighteen years of practising on three continents — first in Dublin, where she graduated from Trinity College in 2008 (B.Dent.Sc. Hons, MFDS RCSI), then in Sydney, and now on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Along the way she’s developed a particular focus on patients who’d rather be anywhere else: those who tense up at the drill, children on the autism spectrum, kids with ADHD, and anyone who’s been putting off a check-up for “just one more year.”

She’s expanded her training into orthodontics (Diploma in Fixed Orthodontics, Progressive Orthodontic Seminars) and cosmetic work — Zoom whitening, veneers, clear aligners.

Outside the surgery, Katie is most often running, swimming open water, or training for her next triathlon. She used to play squash at international level — these days the racquet only comes out for fun, with her two kids heckling from the sidelines.

Dr Thiago Motta brings fifteen years of clinical experience — and a healthy dose of Brazilian warmth — to White Sands Dental.

Thiago earned his BDentSc in Rio de Janeiro and spent the early years of his career practising across Brazil before settling on the Sunshine Coast. He’s been part of the White Sands team since the practice opened in 2020. While he treats every kind of dental work, orthodontics is where his particular interest lies — bite corrections, fixed braces, and clear aligners for teenagers and adults alike.

His approach in the chair is calm, methodical, and unhurried — the kind of quiet competence that lets you stop gripping the armrests and just exhale. Whether he’s mapping out a multi-year orthodontic plan or running a routine clean, Thiago treats every appointment with the same considered attention.

When the chair’s empty, you’ll find him in the surf or planning his next trip — the same restless curiosity that took him from Rio to the Sunshine Coast hasn’t slowed down.

Dr Stewart McCaffrey grew up on the wild Atlantic coastline of Northern Ireland — which is probably why a practice called White Sands felt like home from his first day.

Stewart trained at the University of Edinburgh, earning his BDS and MEDS RCS — qualifications that come with a quiet pride for anyone who’s spent winters studying in a Scottish capital. His work focuses on endodontics: the careful, technical practice of saving teeth from the inside out, more commonly known as root canal treatment. It’s a discipline that rewards patience, steady hands, and exact attention to detail.

Stewart treats dental care as a partnership. He’ll explain the why behind every recommendation, lay out the options without rushing the decision, and walk you through it one step at a time.

Outside the practice, you’ll find Stewart on the bike. He races road and gravel competitively across Australia — the same precision and patience that draw him to endodontic work seem to be exactly what suit him out there, mile after mile.
